Magus Academus is a game for wizards and witches of all types.

The game is played in two phases: the semester, in which students study in classes and extra-curriculars (as well as deal with the gossip of their peers in one way or another), and trials.

During trials, students will use what they've learned in the real world. The Referee (called the Headmaster) will set a particular goal for them in any OSR adventure of their choice, and see if they can pull it off. Of course, other situations may come up throughout the school year!

In their final year, students will create a Graduate Thesis, a spell of their own imagining. To finish it, they will once again need to quest in the world to find the necessary truths and elements to perfect their new spell.

Essentials:

  • Four attributes, Strength, Dexterity, Mind, and Will, ranging from -1 to +3. Tests for success are d20+Attribute vs. a standard target of 12. Advantage and Disadvantage may be applied.
  • Player-facing rolls. Test DEX to dodge! Test Will to parry a wand attack!
  • Vancian casting with plentiful spells. Everyone's a wizard!
  • Counterspell! If you're targeted by a spell in combat, try to cast one of your own! The mid-air collision may have unique effects.
