Goblin Tales is an Old School RPG inspired by fairy tales—the Grimm and grizzly kind—intended to keep children in bed at night.

It is designed for compatibility with most OSR products, and includes a free companion adventure.

Rules are included for:

  • Ridiculously Quick Character Generation (Roll Stats, Gain HP, Pick a Class, and give them a name - probably the hardest part.)
  • Simple, sensible dice-rolling.
  • Adventuring (Travel, Exploration, & Combat)
  • Phased Initiative and Simultaneous Action (Early, Foe, Late Phases)
  • 10 Fairy Tale Based Classes (Silver Knights, Red Knights, Seers, Leeches (The Medical Kind), Burglars who steal truth itself, Old Soldiers, Blessed Youths, Jinxed Cats, Wandering Bones, and the Poets who tell their tales)
  • Gear
  • 20 Magical spells based on the GLoG Magic Dice system.
  • Several pages of example monsters of all power levels, and quick formulas to adapt nearly any monster to the ruleset.
  • Treasure hoards of various levels and their contents, both magical and mundane.

Also included is a starting adventure in the land of Meridia, a festival to introduce players to the land, its legends, and its leaders, and a 3-level dungeon located underneath Meriden castle itself!

Mystery and adventure await!

I love your take on character classes!  So much flavor.

Also, good job with layout and just the right amount of text/depth for a one booklet system with included adventure.

Thanks! It's been fun to write, so I'm glad it was an enjoyable read. :)

Nice work with this... i really like the system... waiting for the updates....

Glad you like the system!

What kind of updates would you like to see in the future?

My own plans include fleshing out the adventuring region a bit more with original monsters, dungeons, etc. Probably (definitely) more classes, spells, etc.

Honestly, I'm quite satisfied with what I saw... Some adventure generator tables would be welcome, as well as more mystical classes for players, like vampire, werewolf etc... But that's just personal taste...

Just a question, the monster stats is for a party against them or its fit in 1x1?

HD is an approximation of level, though with this style of game a 1-to-1 fight usually favors the monsters. If a monster has an * after its name, it's usually a bit tougher due to some unique and powerful abilities.

Werewolf / Vampire classes do sound really cool. :) I'll mark them down to work on.
